Volunteer Opportunities

Spend a few hours sorting clothes or help pack a box for a local child in need! Volunteer as an individual or bring a group.  Volunteers must be 18 years old or accompanied by a parent/guardian. Children 12 and older are welcome with a parent. 

 Help us deliver Boxes of Basics!  All deliveries will be dropped off to one of our referring partners which is normally a school, government or community agency. We do not deliver directly to families. By signing up you agree to pick up boxes from our headquarters in Manassas, VA. 

  Hold  a community collection of new socks and underwear, winter coats, new shoes, or organize your own children's clothing drive!  

We love welcoming volunteer groups to our warehouse! 

• Group Size: To ensure a productive and enjoyable experience, we can accommodate groups of up to 15 people maximum.
• Private Shifts: If your group would like to have a private volunteer shift for your group we require a minimum of 10 volunteers. Smaller groups are welcome to join one of our regularly scheduled shifts.
• Scheduling: Due to high demand, group volunteer opportunities fill up quickly! We are currently scheduling group shifts three months in advance. Be sure to book your spot early.

  Neighborhood Captains serve as vital advocates in their communities to help local children in need. By sharing our mission, encouraging neighbors to donate children’s clothing, and spreading the word about drop-off locations, Neighborhood Captains expand awareness and increase clothing donations to meet growing demand. This role allows you to make a meaningful impact by dedicating a few hours each month—right from your neighborhood. 

 The program is perfect for volunteers who may not have time to work at our warehouse but still want to support local kids. By engaging your neighborhood, you’re helping us reach more families and provide children with the essentials they need to succeed. 

  The Boxes of Basics Teen Board brings together passionate high school students to support our mission to combat clothing insecurity by providing complete seasonal wardrobes to local children in need. Guided by the idea of “Teens Helping Teens,” members work alongside peers, mentors, and community leaders to lead service projects, support outreach efforts, and make a direct impact in their community. Through this experience, students gain hands-on leadership skills while also gaining exposure to nonprofit operations, community leadership, and professional mentorship.
