What is the Teen Board?

The Boxes of Basics Teen Board is a student leadership program that brings together high school students from across Prince William County and the surrounding area to fight clothing insecurity in our community. Guided by the idea of "Teens Helping Teens," members take an active role in supporting the Boxes of Basics mission — providing complete seasonal wardrobes to local children in need — while developing real leadership skills along the way.

We are looking for students who are ready to lead, not just participate. If that's you, we'd love to have you on the team.

The Teen Board plays an active role in:

Supporting clothing distribution and warehouse operations
Leading outreach and recruitment efforts across local schools
Planning and executing community events and fundraisers
Pursuing grant funding to support Boxes of Basics programs
Building a culture of service and peer leadership that grows year over year

Program Benefits

Through the Teen Board, students:

Develop hands-on leadership, communication, and project management skills
Gain real exposure to nonprofit operations, grant writing, and community fundraising
Collaborate with peers, mentors, and community and business leaders
Make a direct, visible difference in the lives of children in their own community

Teen Board Requirements

Eligibility

Open to rising high school freshmen through seniors residing in Prince William County, the City of Manassas, the City of Manassas Park, Fauquier County, or approved homeschool or virtual programs in these areas. No GPA requirement — we are looking for passion, reliability, and a genuine commitment to service.

Program Expectations

Members are expected to:

Attend monthly in-person meetings (held the second Monday of each month, 6:00–8:00 PM) at the Boxes of Basics warehouse, which include both a meeting and a volunteer shift
Miss no more than two meetings per semester to remain in good standing
Complete regular warehouse volunteer hours outside of meetings
Actively participate in Teen Board initiatives, community events, parades, and outreach efforts
Represent Boxes of Basics with professionalism, inclusivity, and integrity
